A few tips on what to see when in Florence:
Starting in the centrally located Piazza della Signoria, heart of the antique city where Florence’s most important buildings are located:
Palazzo Vecchio, the one time residence of the Medici family and today the offices of the municipality.
Galleria degli Uffizi, one of the world’s most highly acclaimed museums holding pieces by Michelangelo, Botticelli, Leonardo, Raffaello, Caravaggio and many others.
Duomo di Santa Maria del Fiore constructed from 1296 and completed in the 15th century with the realisation of the Dome itself.
The Duomo houses precious masterpieces by Andrea del Castagno, Luca della Robbia, Donatello, Paolo Uccello and the Zuccari brothers to name but a few.
The Santa Maria Novella Church, whose construction started in the 13th century, is today considered a museum for the sheer volume of masterpieces held inside, including the crucifix by Giotto, the fresco painting by Masaccio and those by Paolo Uccello.
Ponte Vecchio (literally Old Bridge) is the oldest bridge in Florence and the only one that was not destroyed by the Germans during World War II.
Today the bridge is home to numerous quaint jewellery shops and you can admire one of the most beautiful and romantic views of the entire city from it.
