Things to see in Rome
Centuries of history, a glorious and long term Empire and a plethora of artists and patrons have given Rome an unparalleled artistic heritage. Every corner of this city seeps culture and history and will leave you speechless.
Here is a list of a few of the many amazing sites in the eternal city: via dei Fori Imperiali, one of the most beautiful streets in Rome that separates the original Roman Forum from the Imperial Forums.
Along this road you can see the Santissimi Cosma e Damiano basilica and the Santa Francesca Romana Church.
At the end of the road you can admire Rome’s most famous monument, perhaps the symbol of the city itself: the Coliseum. The original name of the Coliseum is the Flavio Amphitheatre and, during the Ancient Roma era, housed fights between gladiators and beasts. The stadium could host up to 45,000 spectators.
Not to be missed: the Complesso del Vittoriano, dedicated to Italy’s first king, the construction of this monument commenced in 1885 and finished in 1911. In 1925 the Altare della Patria was added to the monument. On this alter you can find, amongst other symbols, the Statue of Rome and the equestrian statue in bronze of Vittorio Emanuele II on a base that represents the Regions in Italy.
Castel Sant‘Angelo on the road that runs along the river Tiber, lungotevere, and the San Paolo fra le Mura Church in the Ostiense district.
The Pantheon, Roman temple erected by Agrippa in 27 a.d. and dedicated to all the Gods. The Bocca della Verità (The mouth of truth) on lungotevere and the Cestia Pyramid in the Ostiense district; the Santa Maria Maggiore Church on the Esquilino hill;
The Trevi Fountain, a baroque construction, made infamous in the Fellini film The Dolce Vita; The Sistene Chapel with the famous Michelangelo affresco entitled il Giudizio Universale;
Piazza Navona, famous square with fountains and an obelisk opposite the Sant’Agnese in Agone church.
