The Aosta Valley is a region with a constitution of its own and is siutated in the north-west of Italy, with the capital being Aosta. The Aosta Valley is part of the Euroregion Alpi- Mediteranneo. It lies right in the heart of the Alps and is surrounded by Italy’s and Europe’s highest summits (including Mont Blanc, Cervino, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso). The mountains of Valle d’Aosta have been immortalised in Alpine History starting with the first ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786, to the conquest of Cervino in 1865, to recent discoveries of new routes and tracks to the summits. The valley is famous for its natural treasures and variety in vegetation and the establishment of the Natural Reserve of Gran Paradiso was one of the first protected national reserves in the whole of Italy. Today it is a very sought after tourist and excursion destination.
