BARCELONA AIRPORT

Barcelona – El Prat Airport is the main Airport of Catalunia and the second most important in Spain following the Airport of Madrid – Barajas known as the "Adolfo Suarez Airport".
The Airport is registered as “Aeropuerto de Barcelona El Prat” as it is located within the district of El Prat de Llobregat. The Airport is located 13 km away from the Port of Barcelona, while the "Zona Franca" is 9 km away from it. The "Zona Franca" is not only well known for being one of the most significant logistics and industrial areas in Spain, but also for being Barcelona's economy key factor.
The Airport offers two terminals and a huge selection of international flights.

HISTORY:
Barcelona's first Airport was built and finished by 1916 in El Remolar however in 1918 a new airfield was set up within the district of El Prat de Llobregat, where it can still be found today. The first route Barcelona - Madrid, operated by the airline Iberia, was launched in 1927 while the first landing and take-off airstrip was built in 1948 and it is still used today as the Airport's main runway. Additionally in that same year the Airport started operating intercontinental flights and some years later the Airport was further enlarged.

AIRPORT TRANSFERS:
Barcelona – El Prat Airport is situated approximately 12 km south-west from the city centre to whom it is well connected.

Subway from Barcelona Airport to the City Centre:
The L9 South Line, also recognizable as the orange line, connects the Airport to the city centre. The Subway's entrance can be found outside Terminal 1 arrivals area and next to Terminal 2 train station.
The Subway may be convenient if your accommodation is close to one of the red, blue and green line's stops. In fact the L9 South Line intersects the red line in Torassa, the red one in Collblanc and the green one in the station known as "Zona Universitaria".
Travel time is about 40 minutes and the ticket costs 4.60€.
If by any chance you are considering buying a public transport pass, you should be aware of the fact that the Subway ticket is included in the "Barcelona Card" and in the "Hola Bcn Card".

AeroBus from Barcelona Airport to City Centre:
AeroBus provides a fast bus service connecting the Airport to the city centre and vice-versa. The A1 and A2 sevices connect the city of Barcelona with respectively Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. For those willing to reach the city centre as quickly as possible this is surely one of the best options. Buses depart every 5-10 minutes from both terminals. Travel time is about 35 minutes. One way ticket costs 5.90 €, while return ticket is 10.20 €.

TMB bus from Barcelona Airport to City Centre:
Apart from the AeroBus service offered during daytime, another bus service known as “TMB bus” is available. TMB buses can be found in both of the Airport terminals. The tickets are cheaper if compared to AEROBUS tickets (2.20 € one way ticket); however travel times to reach the diverse areas of the city centre are longer as this service stops more often. For those willing to reach the main city centre (Pl. Espanya) the bus to take is number 46. In order to check bus # N46 routes visit this website.
TMB bus services are operative every day from 4:50 am to 11:50 pm, yet checking Barcelona's public transport website may inform you of potential changes.
TMB buses are included in the Barcelona Transport Card subscription.

Night buses operating in the city centre:
Buses #’s: N16 (T2), N17 (T1) and N18 (departing from both terminals) operate during night hours and connect the Airport to the City Centre. These buses depart every 20 minutes and stop at Placa Catalunya. Night buses #’s N16 and N17 take approximately one hour to reach the city centre, instead night bus # N18 takes about 40 minutes. One way tickets cost 2.20 €.
Night services shifts vary according to the bus stop:
• N16 departing from T2 starts at 11:30 pm;
• N17 departing from T1 starts at 09:55 pm;
• N18 departing T1 starts at 00:18 am from T1 and at 00:25 from T2.

Train from Barcelona Airport to City Centre:
RENFE trains from the R2 North line depart every 30 minutes from Barcelona Airport and reach the city centre, from where it is possible to continue the desired route by Subway.
By taking the train you will avoid any traffic delay and you will reach your destination in 35 minutes.

Train tickets are included in the "Barcelona Card" and "Hola Bcn Card"; alternatively if you prefer to purchase a one-way ticket the cost is 4.50 €.
The first train departing from the Airport leaves at 05:42 am, while the last one departs at 11:28 pm. Timetables can vary during the year; for any inquiry you may consult Spain's railways official website
N.B.: The train station's entrance is located at Terminal 2. In order to move from a terminal to another you need to take an airport shuttle bus.

Taxis from Barcelona Airport to City Centre:
Taxi services operate 24/7/365 and can be both taken at Terminal 1 and 2. If you are travelling with a group, taking a taxi may be the best choice. You will reach the City Centre in about 20/40 minutes, depending on traffic. Barcelona's taxis are easily recognizable by their black and yellow colours.

Costa Dorada is well known for the beauty of its golden sand beaches, transparent water and natural landscapes. Wonderful beaches, such as Cala Penya Tallada, are found in Salou. This little natural paradise is famous for being an isolated bay surrounded by wild vegetation. Due to its hidden position Cala Penya Tallada is not easily reachable and therefore hardly ever crowded.
Playa Larga is another popular beach, located a few minutes away from the centre of Salou. In addition, for those pursuing a family vacation, the coastal city of Cambrilis is the ideal place. Cambrilis is located South of Salou and its main beach, Playa del Regueral, is positioned near to the city centre. Additionally, the city of Tarragona offers the access to many more amazing beaches.

SECURITY CONTROLS:
Security controls at Barcelona Airport follow the same standard procedures applied all over EU however, it is advisable to revise rules and guidelines before departing.
Once you have completed the check-in, you need to go through the security checks. Before going through the screening, you have to leave all your personal belongings in the specific baskets.

Liquids need to be carried in a 100 ml container and put into a transparent plastic bag. These restrictions apply only to passengers travelling with hand luggage.
