Barcelona – El Prat Airport is the main Airport of Catalunia and the second most important in Spain following the Airport of Madrid – Barajas known as the "Adolfo Suarez Airport".
The Airport is registered as “Aeropuerto de Barcelona El Prat” as it is located within the district of El Prat de Llobregat. The first route Barcelona - Madrid, operated by the airline Iberia, was launched in 1927 while the first landing and take-off airstrip was built in 1948 and it is still used today as the Airport's main runway.
