The first with Gianni Caproni and Giovanni Agusta that flew their Caproni Ca.1, an experimental biplane built in Italy in 1910. At the end of World War II, some manufacturers and politicians of the area restored the airfield to facilitate the industrial activities of Alto Milanese region. Malpensa's commercial activities started in November 1948, as “Aeroporto Città di Busto Arsizio”, and the first direct air link to New York was made in 1950. In 1952, the operator's name was changed to Società Esercizi Aeroportuali S.p.A (SEA). In 1985, SEA prepared a new airport master plan for the reorganisation of the Milan airport system. The plan was called "Malpensa 2000". Malpensa airport was re-opened in 1998.
