Lisbon Airport

Lisbon Airport, also known as “Lisbon Portela Airport” is Portugal's major and most important airport and it counts approximately 22 million passengers every year.
Due to the constant increase of passengers, the Airport has recently been refurbished and enlarged in order to grant passengers more and more services and to support the increase of air traffic.
All major European and intercontinental Airlines transit at Lisbon Airport to reach several primary destinations. The airport is TAP Air Portugal's, the national airline company, main hub.
In 2018 the Airport has reached the significant record of 29 million passengers.
The structure offers two terminals: "Terminal 1" for international flights operated by the major international airlines and "Terminal 2" for low cost flights.

HISTORY:
During World War II, due to Portugal's neutral position, both German and Allies' flights were granted the authorization to land. Because of this unusual circumstance, the airport found itself at the centre of many spy stories. The popular film “Casablanca” is indeed about a story of an escape attempt from this airport.
Lisbon Airport was opened to the public on October 15th 1942, with four air-strips measuring 1 km each; today the air-strips have been reduced to two.
In 2006 a project aimed at building a new airport in Ota, a small city about 50 km outside Lisbon, started. However, this project, as well as a similar one that considered building an airport in Alcochete, has never been completed and implemented.

TRANSFERS FROM AND TO LISBONA AIRPORT:
The airport is located in the village of Portela de Sacavém, about 7 km north from Lisbon.
Transfers from and to the city centre are facilitated due to this strategic position.

SECURITY CONTROLS:
Security is any airport's priority. Due to this, once you have completed the check-in, you will need to go through the usual security controls. Before going through security controls prepare your personal ID/passport and boarding card and place your personal belongings in the specific baskets. From time to time some passengers are randomly selected for extra-controls through an explosive detector.
Declare the presence of liquids in your hand-baggage and put them in specific transparent plastic bags.
Medicines accompanied by medical prescriptions and specific diet products (for example infants' food) can be carried without being placed into the specific transparent plastic bags and can also exceed 100ml. Once gone through security controls, liquids are purchasable at the duty-free shops.
Visit this link to find out all the restrictions concerning liquids' transportation: https://www.aeroportolisboa.pt/en/lis/passenger-guide/baggage/travelling-with-liquids
